Welcome to The Renaissance Road – I’m glad you’re here.
If you’ve checked out my About Us page, you already have a broad sense of some of the things I am interested in. But I wanted this first post to lay out exactly what I’m doing here.
For a long time, I co-ran a food blog. It was a great experience, but over time, I realized my creative style was heading in a different direction. I don’t believe a blog needs to sound like a textbook or a college lecture to be worth reading. To me, the best conversations happen when things are kept simple, honest, and accessible.
The Renaissance Road is my space to talk about all of the things that interest me and catch my attention.
Sometimes that’s the adventure that awaits on the literal open road, from a great family vacation, to the spring and summer days spent getting my son and a load of equipment to his baseball games. Other times, it’s the desire to be creative in the kitchen (the food blogger still lives on in those moments), the everyday life that occurs while doing a home maintenance project, or talking about a song that hits my ears just right—whether it was recorded in 1920 or last Tuesday! I’m an “apprentice” of it all. I like to figure out how things work, why they taste the way they do, and what makes a song stick in your head.
I’m not here to be an expert. I’m here to share what I find interesting, learn some new things along the way, and hopefully hear what’s on your mind, too – having passengers on the ride always adds more fun to the adventure.
If I were to compare my blogging experience to a song, my first blog would pair well with the Tom Petty song “Learning To Fly” – “I’m learning to fly, but I ain’t got wings.” The natural fit for The Renaissance Road is “Life Is A Highway” by Tom Cochrane, and later by Rascal Flatts – remakes remind us that there’s more than one way to get there on this road!
“There’s no load I can’t hold
A road so rough, this I know
I’ll be there when the light comes in
Just tell ’em we’re survivors
Life is a highway
I want to ride it all night long”
My first blog lives on now in my rearview mirror with a sense of pride in what we accomplished. It’s a big part of my history, and it gave me the wings to fly (and the wheels to drive) on this new adventure!
I look forward to continuing the journey. I’ll catch you at the next stop.
