Let’s Groove – Earth, Wind & Fire

Welcome back to Tune Talk! This time around, we are diving straight into some legendary ’80s funk.

“Let’s Groove” was actually a massive comeback hit for the band. Even though disco was experiencing a huge backlash at the time, Earth, Wind & Fire managed to perfectly bridge the gap between their classic funk roots and the new ’80s synth-pop sound—complete with that iconic, futuristic robotic voice in the intro.

When it comes to Earth, Wind & Fire, what is not to love? Their music is incredibly fun, lively, and practically forces you to get up and move. “Let’s Groove” is one of my absolute favorites in their entire catalog and is a massive music staple in our house—specifically in the kitchen.

I love throwing on a playlist while I cook, which frequently leads to spontaneous family kitchen dance parties. “Let’s Groove” makes a regular appearance on that kitchen lineup, and it never fails to get me moving. It gets me going so much, in fact, that I often get completely pulled away from paying attention to whatever is actually cooking on the stove. I always try to resist, but once we hit the part of the song where they sing, “We can boogie on down… down! Boogie on down!!” it’s all over. By then, I have completely forgotten about whatever I am supposed to be doing and am fully invested in the song and the groove!

This one rated highly with all of us—clearly I am not the only fan of the kitchen parties in this house!
